Summary

Monday at Roland Garros saw the quarter-final line-up completed, impressive displays by title favourites Iga Swiatek and Rafael Nadal, a slew of straight-set matches, and one enthralling contest, which stood out above all the others, between Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti.

What did we learn about Musetti? How did he manage to win the first two sets against Djokovic? Why did it all change so suddenly? And should Musetti have finished the match instead of retiring?

Elsewhere, we talk about a surprising slump from Sloane Stephens, look ahead to an intriguing one between Barbora Krejcikova and Coco Gauff, discuss a welcome return to form for Diego Schwartzman, and bemoan the night session scheduling of Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Alexander Zverev.

The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, and features Matt Roberts. It is produced weekly year-round, and daily during the Grand Slam tournaments. It is crowdfunded by listeners each December.

And as we come to you, Igor Shviontech, the defending friendship and champion,

0:29.8

is a set in a breakup over Marta Kostiuk of Matt Damdijor fame.

0:37.4

More of that, I'm sure to come. Or maybe not much more of that if she does go on to lose this match

0:42.0

throughout the course of the podcast recording. Maybe it will be conveniently forgetting that.

0:46.8

But even a Shviontech does go on to win this match, which you would back at to do

0:53.1

from this point. She hasn't had it all her own way tonight. And I guess you can read that

0:59.2

two ways. The fact that she's on course for a straight set of secretary, brackets,

1:03.9

potentially seen to be out of date tennis news. Even when she's not playing her best, that's

1:10.6

a great thing and that is the sign of a champion. But equally, if you're anybody else left in the

1:15.6

drawer in the locker room, this might be the sort of performance that gives you just a tiny bit of

1:21.2

hope that there are chinks in this Shviontech armour. What do we think, David? Hello, by the way.

1:29.6

Yeah, hello. And hello, Matt. Hello. I am pretty transfixed by this match. So I'll try and

1:36.4

concentrate on what I'm saying. But I don't know. I mean, I think this is a good match for Shviontech,

1:43.6

even though she's been tested. The scoreline is pretty one-sided as it looks at the moment.

1:50.0

She has had a lot to handle in this match. I think Marta Kostya has been fantastic.

1:55.2

I don't think I've seen full matches of hers before. I've only seen snippets. She is bringing it.

2:02.8

She smacks her backhand. Some of the rallies side to side. She has given Shviontech all she can
