Welcome to another edition of a little podcast we like to call Rico Bronia.

So here's the reality, Matt fans.

We've got a lot to talk about today, by the way.

We'll read some of your emails.

We'll focus a little bit on Carlos Mendoza,

a guy that we haven't mentioned a lot during the off season.

But we lead it off with the reality that Roki Sasaki will not be in New York, Matt.

Is anybody surprised?

Is anybody out there really genuinely surprised that Roki Sasaki did not pick the New York Mets?

When it was first announced that he was coming over here and we were all familiarizing

ourselves with the system and the fact that this will be similar to Otani's first free agency and it's not,

you know, highest bid gets him. Did any of us really think? And this is not to crap on the

organization by any stretch or crap on where we've come as a franchise. But did anybody really

think that Jeremy Hefner and the work he's done, and he's done some

really good work, that David Stearns and he's done some nice work that he's been here for a year,

did anybody really think he was going to pick us? And I don't mean that in some kind of

negative way about us. I just think that when you look at the competition, specifically the Dodgers

and the Padres, because the Blue Jays are apparently a finalist, too, we'll see. Did anybody think

that geography, that we can't change, we can't change where New York is located. Did anybody

think we were really going to get him? So I'm not angry.
