Summary

Cathy and Todd discuss Rocky (1976), a film that feels more like a documentary than a traditional sports movie, set in the working-class neighborhoods of Philadelphia and made on a shoestring budget by writer and star Sylvester Stallone and director John G. Avildsen. The story follows Rocky Balboa, a small-time boxer and part-time debt collector living an almost invisible life, who unexpectedly gets a shot at the heavyweight title against champion Apollo Creed as a publicity stunt. At its core, the film is about Rocky trying to prove he’s not a “bum,” developing his relationship with Adrian, and wrestling with the deeper question of self-worth over winning. It’s a grounded, human portrait of people searching for meaning and wanting their lives to matter, even if they don’t win. They’ll continue with Rocky II next week as part of their Rocky Month series.

Okay, I'm going to tell you, because you had the talent to become a good fighter. And instead of that, you became a leg breaker. So I'm cheap, secondary loan charge. It's a living? It's a living. We've got to do what we got to do. I didn't know what exactly to put in for the trailer, so I just decided to do that because we're going to talk about rock. I kind of wanted the music louder. It was kind of like dull. I know. I know. I always like the music louder. Not in my ears. You know what that reminds me of? What, babe. It reminds me of our reception after our wedding, because today is our anniversary, everybody.

We all have to have bad things to help us learn.

Well, what did I learn?

1:24.9

What I learned is my DJ.

1:26.3

You learn that next time you get married, you should have louder music. I kept saying to him, can you turn it up? Because it's not loud and he's like, I can't. I'm like, really? And actually, he could. He chose not to. Didn't I hire you to play loud music? We should hunt down that DJ and really egg his house.
