I've had a lot of crappy jobs, and I mean a lot. Too much work for not enough pay, abysmal hours

that are either too many or not enough. For the longest time, I didn't even know overtime was a real

thing. I'm referring to the time and a half pay part. I used to work more than 40 hours

a week sometimes, but the extra pay never happened. Getting a job at the rock quarry changed everything.

It's a pretty interesting job for the first few months. But once you learn everything about driving a hull

truck, it's tediously boring. On rare occasions, I get to watch the blasting crew demolish a wall,

so we have more raw material to run. It happens three or four times a month, depending on how

fast we process the material. It's the most interesting

thing that happens here, but most of the time, I'm not within visual range.

Sitting in a haul truck for 12 hours a day by yourself is boring, but there are things you can do

to pass the time. Listening to music, audiobooks, and podcasts was what I did for the first several months.

But I either got tired of that, ran out of episodes to binge, or couldn't afford to spend any more on books.
