Summary

In this latest episode I reflect on wider implications of the Newsnight interview with George Osborne and the subsequent glorious response of Polly Toynbee- when it was suggested that she and the former Chancellor were now relatively 'close' politically...and related to this: Who's winning the battle of ideas? The winner of this battle also wins elections.

Hello and welcome to rock and roll politics, the podcast with me, Steve Richards. I normally say,

0:18.3

hello and welcome to rock and roll politics, the weekly podcast, but I

0:22.7

haven't done it for the last few weeks, so I can't say that. And thank you very much to all those

0:28.5

of you who tweeted asking where the podcast was. It kind of disappeared. I was thrilled to read

0:35.8

the tweets, but it made me feel kind of guilty as well that I

0:39.0

wasn't doing the podcast, so I was both thrilled and felt terrible. Anyway, it's back, so I've been

0:44.9

really busy in these crazy times that we are living through, but it's back. Here it is,

0:52.0

the weekly podcast. So thank you for waiting. And today I thought I'd look if it's back. Here it is, the weekly podcast. So thank you for waiting.

And today I thought I'd look if it's okay with all of you, not that you've got much choice

1:00.6

in the matter because you're just listening. You're not in a theatre or stage event where

1:06.1

you can influence what happens directly. I think the most significant thing that's happened this week was not

1:26.0

thing I found this week was a news night on, I think it was no Tuesday night,

1:31.8

where Evan Davis in his last show for Newsnight interviewed George Osborne at length,

1:38.0

and then there was a panel, some of you well have seen it, in which Polly Toimby was one of the panelists. And I think it was

1:45.9

a television event of great significance. It was wonderful theatre, but it has much wider significance

1:53.0

than that. It's all about the assumptions we carry with us as we view the politics in its current

1:59.6

feebral and complex state.

2:02.2

For those of you didn't see it, and most of you will have done,

2:04.9

because it's kind of trended on Twitter and YouTube and everything,

2:09.6

is after a long interview with George Osborne,
