Good afternoon everyone and thank you for joining us for the

502nd episode of the Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter Podcast. I'm the host Scott Feinberg,

and for those of you tuning in, this episode is being recorded in front of an audience

at the Karlovi Vari International Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

My guest today is in town to receive the Festival's President's Award. She is a tremendously gifted

American actress and director who has been in the business for 40 years, with credits including

the instant classic films The Princess Bride and Forest Gump, the TV series that helped to

launch Netflix and the streaming era House of Cards, and a host of smaller projects that reflect

her fiercely independent spirit. Now 57 she has to her name 8 Primetime Emmy Award nominations,

10 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, and 4 Golden Globe Award nominations,

one resulting in a win that made her the first-ever Golden Globe winner for acting on a

program from a streaming service. More importantly to her I know is the fact that she has the respect

and admiration of her peers. Indeed, a great many of those who haven't worked with her say they

want to, and virtually all of those who have worked with her gush about the experience. Take

as just one example, Jody Foster, a fellow actress-director who directed her in several episodes of House

of Cards, and who recently said, quote, she's an amazing actress, one of the best we've got,

close quote. I can't wait to speak with her about her journey too and through the business.
