and I talked about how a girl from Iowa first managed to break into the entertainment business.

How she found mentors in Chris Rock and Larry Wilmore ultimately becoming only the second black female writer and the first black female head writer in late night talk show history for Wilmore's The Nightly show on comedy Central in 2015 and the first black female

head writer for a White House Correspondents Association dinner the year

Wilmore hosted it in 2016. Why she felt her perspective was an important addition to the late night arena when she started

hosting the rundown in 2017, becoming only the fourth black female late night talk show host

ever after Whoopi Goldberg, Monique, and Wanda Sykes.
