In our last episode, we discussed the classic 60s western Butch Castley and the Sundance

Kid, and this one will cover The Old Man and the Gun, a David Lowry film starring Robert

Redford that owes a lot to the other half of our pairing and

many other films from Redford's career. The Old Man the Gun began as a 2003 New Yorker article

by David Grant about the life and career of Forrest Tucker, a criminal whose arrest record dated back

to his teen years, as did his escapes from whatever facilities he was placed in, including San Quentin.

The film mostly covers a later

chapter in Tucker's career when he and a gang of fellow agent bandits robbed a series of banks

in the Southwest. Redford plays Tucker with a twinkle in his eye and his partners in crime

are played by Danny Glover and Tom Waits. The film co-stars Casey Affleck, as all Lowry films
