Wow. Hello. Hello and welcome to the Explorers podcast. I hope you are well. Today we start a new series, this on Polar Explorer

Robert Falcon Scott. Scott plays an important role in two other series we have done,

those on Ernest Shackleton and Roald Amundsen, so you'll hear some overlapping information in this series.

Scott was a pivotal character in the heroic age of Antarctic exploration.

He will lead two major expeditions to Antarctica, the Discovery Expedition from 1901 to

1904, and the Terra Nova Expedition from 1910 to 1913.

And while these expeditions accomplished a lot, it will be the race for the South Pole and Scott's

rivalry with Shackleton

and Amundsen that will enthrall the public. And despite dying a tragic death, spoiler there,

it was Scott who emerged as the celebrated hero of the age, not Amundsen or Shackleton, but Scott.

Over 50 biographies have been written about the guy. Of course, time would change those perceptions, and history's take on Scott is very different

from what it was a century ago.
