My guest today is a writer, director, storyboard artist, layout artist,

and animator known for creating my life as a teenage robot for Nickelodeon.

He also directed episodes of Dexter's Laboratory, the Power Puff Girls.

He was the story editor for My Little Pony Friendship His Magic and it was the supervising producer on Gravity Falls.

With a resume like that, it's no surprise that a following has been amassed around our

guest Mr. Rob Renze. I just look at you right I just look at you right if you want the mic like this

you do you can look wherever you want Rob so I look away okay great I don't like to make eye contact with the people I'm talking. I understand. It makes a lot of sense. What was the first memory that you have of animation? What did you love as a kid growing up? Well let's see how far should I go back. Let's go back all the way to the beginning which is me as a young kid

liking to play with paper dolls which seems kind of a strange way to start but I would have

coloring books and I would like the pictures in the coloring books and I would ask my mother to replicate the pictures in the coloring books so that I could, I don't remember if I colored in before she'd cut him out or she'd cut him out and color him, but then I would play with them as if they were figurines.

And I did this so much that my mother eventually got tired of it and said, why don't you mimic the

drawings yourself?

So that's how I started drawing.

As far as how that hooked in the cartoons, obviously, I think that, you know, they were cartoony coloring books.

And eventually I started seeing cartoons on TV.

When I grew up, your access to cartoons was incredibly limited. There was no cable.

Yeah. It was just whatever your local stations wanted to play. But luckily I lived in Chicago or the Chicago

suburbs and I saw Popeyeeye I saw all the old
