festivities are taking place.

And I just wanted to say a word about what I see going on right now.

On the ground, what I feel more than ever is a palpable sense of

unity actually, not just the standard party unity that you see before a

election within a party but a hunger for a kind of national unity that we haven't

had in a long time.

There was obviously a near tragedy, it was a tragedy, life was lost, but a near national tragedy of historic proportion on Saturday night.

I think many of us, myself included, are still reeling from that.

But in the wake of that, I think people are looking for permission to actually unite as a country,

not in some fake way, not in some artificial astroturf way, but in a true, actual authentic way,

one where we can actually disagree with our neighbors, disagree vehemently

at the dinner table, but still have dinner at the end of it.

That's an America I miss, and I think that's an America that a lot of us miss.

I hope we're able to have that debate across the country, that type of openness across the country,
