The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is trying to block Microsoft's attempted buyout of Activision Blizzard.

The FTC has filed a complaint.

The agency says Microsoft could use its control over the video game publishers' franchises to harm competition. And it argues Microsoft could manipulate pricing, reduce the quality of games or to player experience on rival consoles,

or totally withhold titles from competitors. Morningstar believes the major sticking points in terms of

franchises are Call of Duty and its

Battle Royale spin-off war zone. Microsoft and the FTC will now have to argue over whether

the deal is anti-competitive before an administrative law judge. This will take some time, so we don't

expect the deal to wrap up until the second half of 2023, if not 2024.
