Welcome to the Treatment, Home Edition. I'm Elvis Mitchell. I think my guest, the actor, and rapper Riz Ahmed, we know him from his physical posture and roles.

You can think of him as a wily turned as a guy who's looking at every opportunity in the film Nightcrawler

or his Emmy winning role in the HBO miniseries The Night of.

His newest role really demands a lot of him physically.

It's the sound of metal on Amazon. My guess is the

emirmaning actor, Riz. Thank you so much for doing this. No, thank you for having me.

I think of you as a guy who really understands characters physically. And one of the things about

Ruben, the drummer you play who suffers a loss of, a catastrophic loss of hearing,

and the story is we can see how open he is at the very beginning of the movie.

In fact, when we see first medium sitting behind that drum kit, you can see his pride, his physical pride in being there.

Talk to us a little bit about the way you formed this character physically.

You know, being forced to communicate non-verbally does kind of affect you physically.

When I took on the role, Darius Mada, our incredible writer-director, I mean, believe it or not,

this is his first feature film that he's directed, said, I want it all to be for real.

I want you to really play the drums when you're playing the drums on said, I want it all to be for real. I want you to really

play the drums when you're playing the drums on screen. I want it to be in a real music venue

with a real audience and to be a real gig. And so that meant I went on a seven and a half

month journey of like, you know, learning how to play the drums, just spending

two, three hours a day with a drum teacher or practicing a home.

And similarly, spending that amount of time learning American Sign Language with my instructor

Jeremy Stone, who's also in the film.
