Summary

This is the second part of our series on Treasure Island. Listener Gary Pilgrim was taking a drive across the Bay Bridge with his new wife when they decided to stop at Treasure Island. After taking in the sweeping views, he wondered how this manmade island came to be in the first place, and what it's future holds. 0:16.0	how it was created by dumping mud onto a shallow reef,

0:23.0	A 50 million dollar patent of the Pacific.
0:27.0	And then it was Navy land until 1997.
0:31.0	Now it's part of San Francisco. Today we're looking ahead at the city's
0:36.8	plans for a new neighborhood. 8,000 new apartments and condos, more than a
0:42.1	quarter of them affordable, the largest green space
0:45.2	San Francisco has built since Golden Gate Park. More office and retail space than
0:50.3	San Francisco's downtown Westfield Center.
0:53.0	But that all made Gary wonder.
0:55.0	I'm also wondering since it's so low to the water
0:58.0	if the rising seas are going to be an issue for it.
