Summary

In Episode 347 Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger explore the history and mysteries of the Western Massachusetts town of Ripton. Founded in 1767, Ripton made waves back in the mid-1980s when they requested some additional funds from the state budget. Then the U.S. Air Force explored Ripton as a potential site for a new early-warning radar system, and that’s when Ripton made the news for one of the greatest pranks ever pulled in the history of Massachusetts.

0:07.4	So you might notice if you talk to, I don't know, anyone around here that there's no Boston accent.

0:16.0	So once you get west of the 495 loop, the Boston accent drops off considerably.
0:21.0	And out in Western Mass, I mean, they really don't use it at all, and you may do well to hold it back so, you know, we can blend in.

0:30.0	So I think part of it is a protest.
0:32.0	People around here don't feel is connected to Boston.
0:34.6	All the politicians live and work in Boston and they don't really pay much attention to the
0:38.9	Western part of the state. And folks around here, they take it personally.
