You're hearing I'm still in love with you by Al Green, featuring my guest Howard Grimes on drums. A native of Memphis, Howard was the drummer for the outstanding high records rhythm section.

Together with the Hodges Brothers, Charles on organ, Leroy on bass, and teeny on guitar,

Howard laid the foundation for some of the most soulful and widely loved music in history.

Under the guidance of visionary producer Willie Mitchell, the band cut countless classic hits

with artists like Al Green, Ann Peebles, Odes Clay, and Denise LaSalle.

Howard began his career at the age of 12, backing the legendary singer Rufus Thomas.

Soon, he was recording for satellite records, which was later renamed Stacks.

During this time, Grimes formed a bond with another monumental drummer, Al Jackson Jr.

The two would collaborate on recordings for both stacks and high,

and they'd often trade off between drum kit and percussion.

Howard's recorded output slowed a bit after high records sold in the late 70s.

But as new generations of musicians come to appreciate the timeless records made by Howard in the band,

there's been a renewed interest in his unstoppable groove.

He's currently a member of the Bow Keys, a group made up of all-stars from the Memphis music scene.
