Leading off today, according to CNBC, Apple is nearing a deal to acquire talent and technology of the computer vision startup prompt AI.

of their next steps. Prompt employees were asked to refrain for mentioning Apple until further notice

while searching for other jobs, and those who don't end up joining Apple will be paid a reduced

salary, and encouraged to apply for open roles at the company.

Prompt's flagship product is something called Seymour, which applies AI to security cameras

in order to detect specific people, pets, and other animals or objects around a household,

and to send alerts and descriptions of unusual

activity or answer questions about what's happening in front of the camera.

Essentially, this sounds like an aquaire, where Apple acquires prompt in order to obtain the

talent from the company.

Acquiring talent and technology rather than full companies is not a new strategy, but it's become even more common for major tech companies during this boom of AI.

One of the biggest reasons for this is to avoid scrutiny of the Federal Trade Commission and other regulators.

Prumped AI had also attracted attention from Elon Musk through both his XAI and Neurrelink companies,

but it seems that Apple won out in attracting the talent and technology from the company.

Next up today, in 2017, Apple launched a brand new app called Clips, a creative video app that

could originally only make Square Aspect Ratio Movies. It had fun effects, automatic subtitle captions, and more.

But in a world of social media apps like TikTok, Capcut and others, Clips never really

gained traction.
