Yes, time for a brand new mini-mix tonight. I'm Radio One, and I'm delighted to be joined by Rising Star of the Underground, Riordan. Welcome to Radio One. What's up, bro? How are you doing? It's an absolute pleasure to welcome you here, and I'd always like to check this with someone new to the show. Have I pronounced the name right? You know, so you've pronounced it exactly how all the Irish people that I spoke to when I was in Dublin last week told me I should pronounce it.

0:24.4

Oh. right you know so you've pronounced it exactly how all the irish people that i spoke to when i was

0:22.2

in dublin last week told me i should pronounce it weird but i actually say it rawdon so i say it like

0:27.9

jordan with an arm my mum named me after a south african friend oh that's how he said it so

0:33.4

shout out mum denis she's in the studio she's in yeah i love that i love that, I said when she walks in I was like, she's a rave her I can spot him a mile off I noticed a couple of months ago you celebrated your 23rd birthday Harvey birthday can you still say it a few months like I don't know but what became apparent was I actually thought you were older because your production sounds so accomplished. You obviously so busy and

0:55.8

DJing and you come across on social media. You're very mature head actually. Thank you. Thank you.

So how old are you when you started making music and producing? Let's sort of rewind. Yeah, exactly. So I

1:05.4

finished school in like I was doing my A levels when COVID hit in in 2020 so I was 17 just turned 18 and I just

1:14.0

decided look it's COVID I might as well put all of my time into learning something that actually

1:18.8

would be worthwhile so I just instead of gaming and all that I just started getting obsessed with

1:23.4

producing and it was like the best decision that I made I'm glad I did start at that time because I feel like it's given me a lot of time to discover my sound and now I feel that I'm really at a place where I'm comfortable with my sound and confident with the direction that I'm going in. But it's a journey, you know, and I think to any producers that are starting out, it's important to just take your time with it because the music I was making five years ago during lockdown when I started producing was completely different to the stuff that I'm making now and that's okay. It's a journey for every producer and I think it's all right to adapt your sound as you grow and as you discover new things. Obviously you're doing amazing. You're DJing here then everywhere. We are playing our tunes all over Radio 1. We love you. You've got lots coming out. Collaborations with Gorgon City. Collaborations at Tep Z. A lot of good things are happening for you, but to a lot of people listening, you'll still be a new name to them. So how would you describe your sound to someone in a nutshell who's about to listen to this mini mix that we're about to play? Okay, so, house is my bread and butter, and it's what I always go back to. One of the main reasons that I fell in love with dance music was I went to Reading Festival when I was 16 with all my mates, and we found this small stage called Smyrnoff House, and it was small, up-and-coming DJs, and it was just groovyovy house music and I kind of discovered my love for

2:34.3

house so that I think will never go away but over the last few years I've really dived into

2:39.8

the garage sounds that I grew up also listening to you know my parents being ravers back in the day

2:45.0

were always playing a lot of garage around the house so I kind of just have found a way to try

2:50.6

and mix those two sounds together,

2:52.3

which is why I call my mini-mix Garage House Rising, because I kind of feel like there's a bit

2:57.6

of a grey area, which is a genre people don't speak about too much, where it doesn't quite fit

3:02.8

into the all-out UKG stuff, but it also isn't just house. It's a little bit of a blend of the two, and that's where I feel like I sit,

3:10.5

and that's the sound that I love playing out the most. Amazing. Well, the perfect tee-up to get into this week's mini-mix. This is the first time I'm hearing it on the radio, so I think you should turn up. I'm going to do the same in the studio. Would you like to do the honours and introduce it?
