Without a boat, drifting with the current, helpless to where it may take you.

What could be worse?

Hanging on to half a dozen other unfortunate souls, some whaling that they can't hang on for

much longer to the log you found drifting in the water. That's a pretty bad situation, isn't it?

Sharks swimming below. The sun goes down and the temperature drops. No thanks, not for me,

but then an island pops up.

And you feel the heat of its sand beneath you by morning.

And now what could be better, considering the circumstances?

Fresh water, that would be better for sure.

Hey, you know what, maybe that Komodo dragon over there knows where we could find some.

I'm Jack Luna. This is Aaron Hable.

While backpacking in Asia, Jim Manning, a Royal Marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, meets Charlotte Allen,

a free-spirited young woman out to see the world. They are drawn to each other and find a natural

chemistry and their shared passion for scuba diving and travel. In 2006, Jim leaves the military

after a decade of service so that he and Charlotte can move to Thailand, where they plan to find work

and live a diving lifestyle. The couple find a local dive shop in Kopipi and begin working as

dive instructors. Both Charlotte and James are described as experienced and well-trained divers.

In 2008, Charlotte, then 25 and Jim 30 began organizing a month-long diving adventure through Indonesia.

The couple excitedly prepare and begin their journey, eventually reaching Flores, an island in eastern Indonesia.
