Hello, thanks for joining me today for Give Him 15. The title of our post today,

Right on Time. In 1 Samuel 16, 12 to 13, David was anointed to be king over Israel. Jesse sent,

brought him in. He was ruddy, beautiful countenance, goodly to look at,

and the Lord said to Samuel arise, anoint him. This is he. Samuel took the horn of oil

and anointed him in the midst of his brethren, and the spirit of the Lord came upon David

from that day forward.

So Samuel rose and left.

Most scholars believe that David was between 10 and 15 years of age when this occurred.

However, it was more than 20 years before Samuel's prophecy to David was fulfilled in 2 Samuel 5, 1 to 5.

Let's read that.

All the tribes of Israel, remember over 20 years later, all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said,

Where your bone and flesh previously when Saul was king over us,

"'you were the one that led Israel out and in.'

"'And the Lord said to you,

"'You will shepherd my people Israel.

"'You will be ruler.'

"'So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron,

"'David made a covenant with them before the Lord at Hebron.

They anointed David, king over Israel.

David was 30 years old when he became king and reigned 40 years.

At Hebron, he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem,

he reigned 33 years over all Israel and Judah. According to these verses, David was 30 years old when he became king however the first seven years of his reign as a king
