I spoke to Ridley in London recently and it was a wide-ranging chat about his upcoming return to the alien franchise

Alien Paradise Lost his prolific and prodigious output and of course the Martian itself at 78

How are you? I'm not too bad. Thank you for much for asking. I love the Martian

It seems to me like Ridley Scott's sci-fi movies are like buses you wait 30 years for one then three come along at once

What was it about now at this point in your life that you decided to come back to the show?

Well, I didn't start because I was 40. I made a film first film when I was 40 after that

It'd be no advertising. I certainly thought when I said you know Christ I better make movie otherwise too late

But since then I've jammed quite a few in and I'm just expanding as I get more prolific

It gets easier and so I'm just seeing if I can do two a year now try to do two a year or we previewed last year

11 months ago was Exodus which is massive. This is true. It's nice

It's I mean very I'm very happy about that Woody Allen makes one a year

His movies are small. Yeah, yeah, that's all right. You're as big. I mean how do you do it?

I know my real value in my education was going to art school and from that

I didn't realize how it was going to be applied to what I do later

But what I do later I see in images and so my hardest single thing to do is get it on paper

Choosing materials not so difficult now before I used to agonize over what do I do next now very much random if I like it
