Summary

Ridley Scott revives film noir into the sci fi genre, with Blade Runner, bringing us a tale of technocratic dominance vs. transhumanism. Jay Dyer and Jay Weidner unveil of a world where corporate globalism has run rampant, giving rise to a synthetic dystopia. 0:47.2	Giant ziggurots towering over the entire city with one corporation that runs it all,
0:52.2	the Tyrell Corporation, and what are they obsessed with artificial intelligence and human engineering?
0:57.3	So this film is really an amazing exploration of what happens when an artificial creature, Decker, begins to realize that he is, begin to become self-aware, self-conscious.
1:13.1	And I think that is actually what the film is about,
1:15.5	is Decker's coming from kind of the matrix of being artificial intelligence,
1:22.7	and Badi initiating him and leading him into individuality, which he achieved by the end of the film.
1:30.3	I like that you mentioned initiation because I see the opening sequence with that
1:35.5	Ziggurat and then we flash to Decker's eye, right? So basically we're having a giant pyramid
1:41.0	with an eye, right?
1:42.0	That's right.
1:43.0	And so we know that from the outset this is in some way Masonic or an initiatory type experience
1:48.0	that we, the viewer, as well as Decker, the replicant, is going to undergo throughout the film.
1:53.0	That's right, and the whole film is the replicants have a disgust for humans.
2:01.6	Right.
2:02.6	And they really have come to realize that we're actually not useful at all.
2:07.6	And they are superhuman.
