In Latin America, dictatorships and insurgencies have often ended in negotiated amnesties, to

end the violence, the violent go unpunished. Some of those amnesties have been challenged

years later, but it's unclear whether unerthing the past is a good way to keep peace.

And, on average, women make up only four out of ten of Europe's scientists and engineers.

But in Eastern Europe, that ratio is far higher. We ask what's different there, and how

getting more women in the lab is a clear economic win.

For two weeks now, protests have been breaking out in Puerto Rico's capital San Juan.

Monday's demonstration was among the largest in the territories history.

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets,

banging pots and pans, parading with banners, and chanting Ricky Rizai.

Later, police fired tear gas to disperse the crowds.

The target of all this fury is Ricardo Rossello, the island's governor. Earlier this month,

a trove of crude and offensive messages sent by the governor and his closest aides was leaked.

The texts even included a joke about the bodies of those killed in Hurricane Maria,

which wrecked the island almost two years ago. The public was outraged.

On Sunday, Mr. Rossello posted a video to Facebook.

He announced that he would not go to the election as governor in the next few years.

In which he pledged to step down as leader of his party and refrain from seeking

re-election.
