Empire Hotel on New York's Upper West Side. I'm the host Scott Feinberg and my guest today is, my money one of the funniest people of

all time the stand-up comedian actor writer director producer singer musician and

award show host extraordinaare Ricky Gervais.

The 55 year old Brit, who has received 23 Emmy nominations, two of which have resulted in

wins, is best known for the office, a British sitcom that he co-created and co-wrote with

Stephen Merchant and on which he starred as middle manager David Brent. It ran on

BBC 2 for two seasons followed by a Christmas special between 2001 and 2003.

He's also closely associated with extras, another British sitcom that he co-created and

co-wrote with Merchant, and on which he starred as ambitious actor Andy Millman.

More recently he has unforgettable hosted the Golden Globes four times, toured as a stand-up, and worked repeatedly with Netflix, creating, writing, and starring as the title character in the comedy series Derek, which ran from 2012 through 2014,

and creating two TV movies, 2016 Special Correspondence and 2017's David Brent Life on the Road, the latter of which

could return him to Emmy contention next month.

Over the course of our conversation at the Empire Hotel, Jervais and I discuss a wide range of topics, among them, how almost all

of his work has to one degree or another been a reflection of his own personal and professional

experiences, including working in an office for many years after college.
