Welcome to the First Cut podcast. I'm Rick Gaiman, and it is time to break down everything that we've seen through two rounds of the American Express and look forward to the weekend.

0:22.3

And to do that, I've got none other than Greg do charm on the line.

0:26.3

Greg, I think I have whiplash from all of the birdies that I saw going in over the past

0:30.9

five or six hours.

0:32.2

What do you think about what we've got going on so far in the California?

0:35.9

I'll tell you what.

0:36.6

It's a little bit different than it was last

0:38.0

week out at the Sony Open. First of all, thanks for being here with me tonight, Rick. Always fun,

0:44.7

as we're now best friends. But this is a completely different golf tournament than we had last

0:49.9

week. I mean, this is what I consider to be dome golf. There's no wind. The conditions are perfect.

0:54.9

It's like they're playing indoors. It's fun to see. And there have been a ton of birdies out there.

1:01.5

Yeah, there was a little joke on the telecast where basically the wind is gusting to two miles an hour because it is, it is about as calm as you could ask for and the scores are

1:12.8

a result of that so at the top rickie fowler and scotty sheffler tied at 15 under par pretty

1:20.6

remarkable stuff considering fowler went out actually i guess both of them did went out and

1:24.6

shot 64s today uh really impressive stuff from both

1:28.6

of them. And what I think is really compelling about both of these guys at the top of the

1:33.7

leaderboard, Greg, is they've both kind of had issues on the weekend. Rikis are a little bit more

1:39.3

well documented with his 36 whole leads, hasn't converted a whole lot of them. And Scottie Schaeffler, in just this young, you know, season that he's played, he's got,

1:48.1

he's got like 10 weekend rounds, and those have been his worst rounds.

1:51.0

So now we're seeing a situation where these guys are going to have to be peddled to the

1:55.1

medal for the next two days, and they haven't necessarily been great at it.

1:58.8

This kind of a tournament almost, I think, will help Scotty Schaeffler specifically.
