From nice guy productions overlooking the glamorous San Fernando Valley, I'm Mick Garrus and this

is Postmortem.

There are many ways into the film industry and many successful cinema artists have found

their way into the business through circuitous roots.

Assistance to producers and production executives have found themselves calling the shots on

major motion pictures after toiling in the ungrateful trenches of subservience.

Journalists and novelists find their storytelling acumen can be put to good use in the screenwriting

format and find success there that far outreaches their previous audiences.

Actors often become writers and directors finding a more extensive way to express their

creative drive and it's certainly not uncommon for editors to ease into the director's chair

and others come by their talents and opportunities genetically.

I began as a music journalist who moved into film, then an interviewer in print and on television

worked in specialized publicity for Avko Embassie and Universal and a PR company.

I learned how to put pieces of behind the scenes footage into narrative shape as the director

of making of documentaries for movies like The Fog, The Howling, Gremlins, and The Goonies.

I was hired to write a screenplay for Avko Embassie when I was doing publicity there and

though my script never got made, it got me an agent who got my material to the good folks

at Steven Spielberg's Ambulance Entertainment and that opened the door to a writing-producing

and directing career that continues to this day.
