| 0:00.0 | Hello, ho, ho! Here's an important message from Network Rail for anyone who's travelling by train this Christmas and New Year. |
| 0:08.0 | We'll be working over the festive period to make improvements to the railway. Most of the network remains open, but some train services will be affected from Sunday the 25th of December until Monday the 2nd of January. |
| 0:22.0 | So, to keep your festive plans on track, please check before you travel at nationalrail.co.uk slash Christmas. |
| 0:30.0 | I wanted to send a few special thank yous to some people today. I want to start with Whitney from Coltscrims Cabernet. She heard I was having a... I don't want to say a hard time. I was just having a lifetime, a rocky time. |
| 0:42.0 | Things were happening in my life. Good and bad. All at once. An overwhelming time. Let's put it that way. And she sent me a very nice gift card to help cover some dinner for my family. Give me a night off. |
| 0:54.0 | And I also want to thank some listeners who have also been so generous in donating to my coffee fund. Some of them sent me enough for coffee. Some of them sent me enough for a lot of coffee. |
| 1:04.0 | So, I want to say a very special thank you to Dan, Riva, Julie, Karen, Bonnie, and Sheila. Thank you so much for your support. |
| 1:14.0 | In 2011, a murder shocked St. John New Brunswick when a prominent citizen was killed in his office. Though the police zeroed in on a suspect quickly, it would take years to build the case against him. But he would argue that they zeroed in on him too quickly. |
| 1:42.0 | And let the real killer get away. I'm Charlie and welcome to Crime Lines. |
| 1:55.0 | Welcome to Crime Lines. I want to say it was so great meeting people at the True Crime Podcast Festival. Next year, it will be rebranding to the True Crime and Paranormal Festival. |
| 2:06.0 | As it expands to some paranormal shows, as we know paranormal shows often have crossovers with True Crime. It will be in late August in Austin, Texas, which is a city I've always wanted to go to. And yes, I already have my ticket. |
| 2:22.0 | Also, last chance to grab a virtual ticket to the Gen Y live show for September 8th. You can watch it from the comfort of your home. I am going to be running a trivia game to see how well the guests know Aaron and Justin and how well Aaron and Justin remember the topics. They've covered over the last 10 years of podcasting. It's going to be an amazing event and totally worth it. |
| 2:48.0 | And that'll round out a very busy 12 months of travel and meetups before I hibernate for the winter. |
| 2:56.0 | But you can always catch me weekly here on the podcast and this week you're going to catch me twice. This is going to be a two-parter. |
| 3:04.0 | Once an episode goes over the 90 minute mark, I just have to split it into to make it more manageable on the production side. Patreon and Apple subscribers will have part two right away and everyone else will get it on Thursday. |
| 3:19.0 | A huge thank you goes to Christie from Canadian True Crime for her research on this case. It was great to work with her on this. And this is a case she has covered as well. And if you think I'm detailed, Christie blows me out of the water every time. |
| 3:36.0 | She covered this case in three parts with a play by play of the investigation and the legal battles her coverage is more like a true crime book than a podcast. So I really hope you go check it out. |
| 3:49.0 | The main sources used were CBC New Brunswick, the telegraph journal CTV Atlantic, the Canadian press and Bobby Jean McKinnon's best selling book, Shadow of Doubt. |
| 4:01.0 | This case takes place in St. John, New Brunswick, which is a place to actually have a family connection to. This isn't the sort of thing I usually bring up in episodes, but I do know I have some history fans in my audience and I thought you might find it interesting. |
| 4:16.0 | We all know that after the American revolution, the country was free from British rule, but not all of the colonists wanted that. There were those who were still loyal to the crown and they were called loyalists or Tories. |
| 4:32.0 | We learn that much in American history class, but what happened to them after the revolution? |
| 4:41.0 | Some of them shrugged their shoulders and moved on in what is now the United States, but some took land grants in Canada, primarily in what is now St. John, New Brunswick. |
