For years now, Colette authors and podcast guests have been trying to get their heads around the central question

of why so many institutions in our society, especially in the arts, academia, and journalism,

have succumbed so completely to rigid progressive orthodoxies on race and gender.

In many cases, whole disciplines and NGOs have now been co-opted by doctrines such as critical race theory that have very little resonance with ordinary people.

In a recently published pair of essays on his popular sub-stax site, Richard Hannania of the

center for the study of partisanship and ideology offers a surprisingly simple explanation.

When it comes to taking control of the commanding ideological and political heights,

progressives simply want it more.

In the United States, his statistics show,

liberals now donate more money to federal political candidates, sign more petitions,

attend more protests, act more aggressively to block dissident views on social media, and even shun people

with divergent political opinions at a greater rate than conservatives.
