Outcake the coverage thanks for spending your Thursday morning with us and we began with what could be turning into a battle of heavyweights over whether Roger Gidell should get extended as commissioner there yesterday was news that broke that Jerry Jones the owner of the Dallas Cowboys is planning to file a lawsuit over any extension that would be offered or given or signed by Roger Gidell the current commissioner of the NFL.

Now this is potentially a blockbuster news story in the world of sports because Roger Gidell over the last several years has made $200 million as the commissioner of the NFL and it seemed that his extension was all but assured when the compensation committee started negotiating an extension with him and then this is E. K.L. Elliott drama happened.

And Jerry Jones I think correctly has pointed out that the NFL I believe did a bad job deciding this situation with E. K.L. Elliott now let's go back in time a little bit I believe the reason why Roger Gidell over punished as a heal Elliott and acted out against him even though the evidence didn't support the decision was because Gidell wanted to make sure that he never got criticized like he did over the Ray Rice situation.

Ever again remember Ray Rice happens domestic violence is typically not been paid attention to in a serious manner for years in the NFL Ray Rice gets a two game suspension for knocking out his then Fiancé later wife on in a Atlantic City casino.

Then TMZ gets the video and the video changes everything now I've argued for a long time that the video should have changed nothing at all because all the video showed us was what Ray Rice had already pled guilty to he had already acknowledged that he did everything in the video but the video comes out and instead of being outraged at Ray Rice although Ray Rice loses his job and yet has yet to receive any substantive job in the world of football sense.

Everybody decides Roger Gidell's to blame and for a little while it seems like Roger Gidell might even lose his job over this well this is stupid as I've been saying for a long time the fact that Roger Gidell became the flash point in this case was incredibly dumb because what should have happened was if you were really outraged by what happened on that video one you should have be mad at Ray Rice.

Okay, he's the one who did it be mad at him to you should be mad at the New Jersey authorities that let Ray Rice off on probation even though there was a video of him knocking out his fiance that's who you should have been mad at but Roger Gidell ended up getting blamed because he's they had the NFL and because to be fair when Roger Gidell started deciding to punish players everybody decided at that point in time that the NFL was the governing body that should be reinvested in the NFL.

So I'm not getting down justice upon NFL players now that was a misguided idea and for over a decade and this is not even a joke for over a decade I have publicly been writing and saying that it's stupid for the NFL to punish players for entirely non sports related acts.

In other words I may not agree 100% with all the decisions that Roger Gidell made into flake eight but that at least was rooted in a decision related to play on the field in other words whether or not the ball was inflated deflated adjusted in any way directly impacts the on the field product if Roger Gidell decides to suspend somebody because they're using performance enhancing drugs.

Okay, totally get that if Roger Gidell decides to suspend somebody because of something they did on the field totally acceptable to me may not make a right decision but that's totally acceptable.

The NFL should have never been in the business of going out there and investigating Ben Rothlesberger and whether or not he had behaved appropriately with a girl in a bathroom in a bar in Georgia.

They should have never been in the business of investigating Pac-Man Jones for alleged criminal acts off the field or Chris Henry or Tank Johnson or any of the other guys that have been suspended for entirely off the field related incidents.

Go back to Adrian Peterson. I thought this was the dumbest thing that could have ever happened when Adrian Peterson gets charged with child abuse.

The first thing most NFL fans thought was what's the NFL going to do to Adrian Peterson? Why should the NFL be involved at all?

You should be thinking what's the state of Texas going to do is he guilty? Is he innocent? How should a court of justice respond?

And I'm not sure you could still do it today but he's been retired for a while and it may make people angry but remember that Kobe Bryant played basketball while he was charged with rape.

He flew from an Eagle Colorado courtroom on days of hearings direct to L.A. to play basketball and he never missed a game because of being charged with rape.

And I think that was because David Stern was an lawyer. I think David Stern looked at the evidence and said, man, this doesn't look good for Kobe but we can't be in the business in the NBA of suspending guys every time they get charged with a crime or even worse in the NFL sense.
