Summary

#427 Retribution - Richard is hoping to get a bridge named after him in Great Yarmouth and hopefully his fans will do better than they did in getting him nominated for a British Comedy Award. It’s an incredible guest to start the new series, making his first appearance in almost 10 years, Stephen Merchant. Stephen has some questions for Richard about his first stint on the podcast and Richard doesn’t really have any answers. But after a bit of squirming the pair get talking about meeting your heroes, your parents meeting your heroes, how an omelette was the clincher in getting Christopher Walken on to The Outlaws, the KLF style destruction of a Banksy, the Herring’s Eye, the surprising news that drugs can be quite good fun, how Stephen made an impression at a Sarah Silverman party and his move into serious acting. Are they friends again by the end? I guess we’ll find out in ten years time.

This is a paid advertisement from BetterHelp. It's a brand new year and we're all looking to get

0:44.8

to the top of our game, physically, but also very importantly, mentally. I'd say more importantly

0:52.4

because when you feel empowered, when you feel you can cope with everything that life has to

0:57.8

throw at you, you are closer to being the best version of yourself. Now, mental health is a very

1:04.5

important subject to me. It's something that I've tried to deal with in my comedy. My own mental

1:09.7

health is helped via my comedy, which I sort of use as therapy, but most of you probably won't

1:14.5

want to stand up in front of hundreds of people and reveal your most terrible secrets. That's just me,

1:20.4

and it's perfectly understandable to be scared of telling anyone about the stuff that's bothering you,

1:24.5

but with the help of a trained therapist, you can really start to sort things out to find out what's

1:32.0

important, to find out why the things that are bugging you, are bugging you, to see if you can

1:37.3

push yourself along the road to a better version, a happier version of yourself is what I would say.

1:44.3

Look, if you think therapy might work for you, if you want to give it a try, BetterHelp is a great

1:49.8

option because it's therapy online via video, phone or message chat. You don't even have to see

1:56.4

anyone on camera if you don't want to. With over a thousand therapists in the UK already, BetterHelp
