Africa is home to some of the world's most fascinating wildlife, and rhinoceros are at or near the top of that list, at least for Maine.

Unfortunately, the animal's population had been in a steep decline since the 1970s due to poaching and was at one point on the verge of outright extinction.

In 1989, the same year the Kenya Wildlife Service was established,

it's estimated there were only 400 remaining black rhinos in the wild, down from 20,000

in the early 70s. Thankfully, steps were taken in subsequent decades to ensure the animal's

survival. And this month, February 2024, the aforementioned

Kenya Wildlife Service celebrated the successful transfer of 21 eastern black rhinos to the L'Alaziba
