Tonight's episode, compelling reasons to doubt Mormonism. Well, as most of you know, I was baptized

into the LDS church fresh out of high school back in June of 1978, and

being a good, faithful, Latter-day Saint, boy, I signed up for a mission.

I received my mission call to Kobe Japan in the summer of 1979 and reported for duty

at the MTC, yes, the missionary training center in Provo, Utah in November of

1979. I was there for two months because I was going to a foreign speaking mission and I had to

learn not only all the ins and outs of how to be a good missionary, but also how to speak the Japanese

language. In January of 1980, I and the rest of the guys in my district at the

MTC, all of whom, of course, were Japan bound, boarded a plane at Salt Lake City Airport and flew

up to CETAC Airport where we had a connecting flight on a 747 across the Pacific and landing in

Narita Airport. From there, we got transported to the mission home

in Kobe, where I met President Thomas Stout and received my first assignment and my first

missionary companion. The first assignment was way up in the mountains of Japan in a little place

called Fukuyama, and my first mission companion was Kyle S. McKay. Now, little did I know at the time

that there existed a companionship in Japan of myself and Elder Kyle McKay, one of whom would go on

to become the church historian and the other one would go on to become Radio Free Mormon.

Kyle McKay was my senior companion. He was the trainer companion

being the first companion that I had on my mission, and I've got to tell you, he was a great guy

and a great missionary. To give you a taste for Kyle McKay, he had been the captain and the quarterback

of his football team at Bountiful High School as well as the student body

president. So you can tell right away he's athletic, he's charismatic, he's good looking, he's
