Summary

Alexi Lalas and David Moss are back with a new episode of State of the Union! In today’s episode, the pair break down the USA dropping its new Stars and Stripes jerseys that will feature in this summer’s World Cup. Will they go down as all-time classics? Alexi says their legacy will be determined by how the teams play in them. Afterwards, Alexi and Mosse bounce around Europe, touching on Folarin Balogun scoring AGAIN for Monaco, Tanner Tessmann getting a start at center back for Lyon, and Malik Tillman and Leverkusen getting a draw vs Bayern. We then get some injury updates on Tyler Adams and Sergiño Dest and whether or not their current injuries will keep them out of World Cup action. We then hit on MLS where Sebastian Berhalter and Vancouver gave James Rodriguez and Minnesota a rude welcome to MLS, Josh Sargent made his league debut, and Diego Luna finally returned from injury. In #AskAlexi, we ponder who should actually be taking set pieces for the USA and in One For The Road, Alexi gives his power rankings of the top 10 fan bases in the World Cup. At this late hour, not only putting someone that has not played there for the national team,

0:05.9

but changing his position and doing that. Is this even a possibility? I will say this about Sebastian

0:13.8

Berhalter. He continues to get better and better and better. I think we're doing him a disservice

0:19.0

just simply talking about his set piece prowess and

0:22.5

ability. Although that is great and incredibly valuable. But I think he's a much better player

0:27.5

on the field than we are giving him credit for in that if he were to start, if Huchatino would

0:33.4

blow people's minds and that first game against Paraguay, there's Sebastian Berhalter in the midfield.

0:38.7

Even if he didn't hit a set piece, I think he still would be able to, and welcome to the State of the Union podcast, presented by Zillow.

Someday starts today. As always, we're going to be looking at the beautiful game on and off the field with the lens of red, white and blue colored glasses. This show will be talking, ooh, U.S. men's national team World Cup jersey drop. Let's see, balligan in rarefied air, Burrhalter rolling, test men at centerback, question mark world World Cup fan base power ranking, summer of 94, Sundance, Hermits, World Cup Oscars. Let's see, Hamas debut to forget. Fino, Alios, and so much more. But first joining me as always, my friend, my colleague, my guiding light, David Mossier, a soccer savant and a Fox Soccer Research and Writer, extraordinary.

1:45.3

Mossie, how you doing on this? Oh, what are we looking at here? March 16th in the year

1:49.4

26. I'm doing well, not as well as our pal Aaron Schechter, who sat court side at a Clippers game,

1:56.1

but I had a fun weekend myself. You did? What did you do? Well, you know, I finished this Steven Spielberg

2:02.4

executive produced, Morgan Freeman narrated Netflix documentary on dinosaurs, which I enjoyed. And so I

2:08.6

had fossils on the brain. On Sunday afternoon, I went to the Tarpitz Museum, which is underrated.

2:14.8

It gets overshadowed by, you have LACMA there, you have the Peterson, you have the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Incidentally, we'll talk Oscars at the end of the show. But tarpitz's pretty cool. You learn about saber-tooth cats and Colombian mammoths and dire wolves. So it was good times.

2:29.5

The LaBreya tar pits over there, right in the middle of commercial avenues and everything over there.

2:35.3

I've been there. It's wonderful. I was in Austin this weekend for South by Southwest. I'll talk a

2:41.6

little bit more about that, but we were promoting, obviously, from a Fox perspective, what's coming

2:46.3

up this summer with the World Cup, and also simultaneously promoting, and the first look at summer of 94,

2:54.4

which is the documentary about our 1990-194 team in the lead-up to that summer.

3:00.6

So all sorts of stuff to look forward to.

3:01.9

Like you said, we'll talk a little bit about all these things a little later in the pod.
