And today we've decided that we could all use a little...

a little Broadway.

Mm-hmm. Right, great. A little Rasmata's to lighten the mood around here.

The Tony Awards were just announced last week, so it's been on our radar.

But we also wanted to pay tribute to the Phantom of the Opera,

which played its final show, had its final chandelier crash,

and closed last month on April 16th, 2023,

after more than 35 years on Broadway.

So, with that in mind, we wanted to revisit a show we recorded

back in December of 2013 on the birth of the Broadway musical.

From the early days of light opera to the landmark production of showboat in 1927.

This is a bit of an oldie from our back catalog, but it's a goodie.

And it's so worth dusting off.

And, you know, if you listen closely, you can even tell that we recorded it in our old studio,

my apartment down on the Lower East Side.

Yeah, at one point there's like rattling recycling bottles in the courtyard,

if you listen very closely.

Yeah, but this show is still a good primer on the origins of the American musical.
