I'm Eric Marcus and this is Making Gay History. Later this year we'll be launching a new

season that will take a look back at the 1970s, between the Stonewall Uprising and the 1979

March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. It was an explosively dynamic, exciting,

and messy decade. And it also happened to be the decade of my very messy coming of age

and coming out. So that'll be part of the story too. If my nephew Ryan cringed about some

of the personal revelations I shared in our coming of age during the AIDS crisis season,

well, he should probably start stealing himself for what I'll be sharing next. As I said,

messy. In the meantime, we're re-releasing our Stonewall season to celebrate Pride Month

and to set the stage for what you'll be hearing this fall. In the three years since we first

shared Making Gay History's four-part Stonewall season, we've continued to learn more about

the Uprising and about the people who were there. Or, not there in some cases. For example,

in the season's second episode, you'll hear an account of the first night of the Uprising

from trans rights activist Sylvia Rivera. Sylvia shared it with me back in 1989 and told the

story of her involvement so persuasively that it's easy to imagine that over the years she came
