at the Computer History Museum, the home to the largest collection of

computing artifacts anywhere on the globe.

Very appropriately, the museum sits at the heart of Silicon Valley, California, the epicenter of the tech world.

Just a short drive from this building, you can find the headquarters of Facebook, Netflix,

and Yahoo.

The garage where Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard set up shop and the house

where Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniac made their first Apple computer 40 years ago.

Nowadays nearly half of all venture capital in the United States is invested here.

Budding entrepreneurs come from around the world to start new tech businesses,

and Silicon Valley keeps on producing new ideas

that will change the way we live. Taking a cab here today I passed the former

NASA Moffit Airfield now serving as Google's testing ground for drones, robotics and

driverless cars. Artificial intelligence is the new Silicon Valley boom and it

generates excitement and fear in equal measure.

Those autonomous vehicles just down the road are driving us into the future and we're not

altogether sure that we like it.

AI, depending on who you believe, will either free us up from drudgery and stress for the things that make us human,

or replace us all with our new robot overlords.

What is the real state of the science of AI?

And what would a machine-led future hold for us all?
