This week, the Academy let in 700 some new members. That is a big number. They have increased that

new membership. This is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, obviously. They have

increased their membership in the last couple of years. This was in response to the

Oscar-So-white controversy where people of color were overlooked in the nominations. And,

you know, obviously for years, women and people of color are very underrepresented behind the

camera and in the executive suites. So the Academy is in way trying to address this its own way

and opening up its membership dramatically.

But on the list of people invited, there are those who have raised eyebrows because their careers in film are extremely perfunctory, let's say.
