Hi, park enthusiasts. I'm your host, Dillia Diambra. And today's episode is a special feed drop from way deep in the park Predators episode vault. It's about a series of crimes that occurred across several years in Australia's Belangelo State Forest during the 1990s. The victims were innocent young people backpacking in this beautiful section of New South Wales,

which is about an hour and a half southwest of Sydney.

The forest is predominantly made up of pine trees and is regularly logged, leaving many sections

covered in down timber. That wood just sort of stacks up over time and it's easy to get turned around

if you don't know where you're going. The park itself is roughly 9,400 acres and you can camp,

hike, go off-roading, or mountain bike there. A lot of visitors check it out just for a day or two.

But back in the early 90s, one man visited the region every day,

and he wasn't taking in the beautiful sights

of the towering pine trees.

He was busy burying bodies,

at least seven of them,

and authorities now suspect possibly more.

I'm On December 29, 1989, Pat Everest was at her home in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, when her phone rang.

On the other end of the line was her 19-year-old daughter, Deborah.

Deborah was calling to let her mom know that she and her boyfriend, 19-year-old James Gibson,

were okay, and they'd just checked out of their hotel in Sydney.

They'd be back in Melbourne in a few days from their backpacking trip.

Deborah felt like the phone call was necessary because 24 hours earlier, a devastating

earthquake had rocked the city of Newcastle, which sat just north of Sydney.
