podcast. In 2019 I sat down with a legendary Harry Rednap for a real old chat on his career.

Here's the first part in which Harry speaks about his time at West Ham.

This includes how he nearly bought Andrei Shef Chenko for the hammers,

predicting the rise of Frank Lampard and his regret at his departure from the club.

your whole of your managerial career. This is your opportunity to separate the

fact from the fiction. I want to ask you one story first of all, rewind back to 1994 and a young Andre Shef Chenko.

How close were you to signing him for West Ham United?

Well, yeah, listen, I think it was Chef Chenko. I couldn't swear to it. What

happened? He and Frank Lampard Sr. who was my assistant.

He knew a couple of lads from his days in Frank was a can in town boy.

And there was a, we got a phone called him a couple of lads who who we frankly they were proper chaps around the east end I think you know

and they they were doing lots of business in Russia or in Ukraine and they said look we we can get any players from the you there were no foreign

players here so they said we said well we don't know any players in Ukraine they said we can

get a couple over a couple of the best ones for you to have a look at. So they sent two players over. I'm sure to this

day that one of them was Chef Chenko and we fixed up a game with Barnett Reserves. John Steele was the manager of Barnett and still he bought a team over at a play and

we played and Shevchenko got two goals and we liked him but he was like a million
