The Guardian's political correspondent, Kiran Stacy, hears from strategists and advisors who are

around Tony Blair in 1996.

The year before the general election that saw the defeat of the Tory Party

after more than a decade in power. Once upon a time, Kia Stama was a very different kind of labour politician. He was an ally of Jeremy Corbyn and unapologetically a man of the left.

But over the last year he seems to have moved closer and closer to a very different former labor leader.

Today after four defeats, just as in 1997,

we have new leadership and a renewed sense of purpose and mission.

It's not just that Tony Blair has started to appear on Labour Party videos again.

Kia Starma has shown strength, determination and intelligence in setting labour back on a winning path.

Or that Starma is speaking at conferences organized by the Tony Blair Institute.
