This is Solvable. I'm Ronald Young Jr. Climate challenges are pressing down with more

0:19.5

urgency than ever before. In order to hold temperature increases back one and a half

0:24.5

or two degrees to meet the temperature target set in Paris at the Paris Climate Accords,

0:29.6

we have until 2030 to cut emissions in half. Climate experts say that'll be tough, but

0:35.8

it might stave off complete disaster. That kind of hard truth can feel crushing, which

0:42.3

is exactly why we need to work actively, keep talking, reflecting, and solving the greatest

0:48.6

problem we've ever faced on a global scale. Here at Pushkin, we're lucky enough to have

0:54.0

one of the best minds around when it comes to making observations and looking to the

0:58.1

future. So today, we have a solvable episode that is a little out of the ordinary, and

1:04.7

I know your guys are used to hearing things out of the ordinary in this time period we've

1:08.4

been in, but Malcolm and I talked together and pursued a few thought experiments about

1:13.1

where we might be headed and who could take us there. We discussed the power of the people

1:18.3

and the power of businesses to bring real and rapid change, and even with the topic as

1:22.8

heavy as this ever-growing global catastrophe, somehow there's a lot of laughter in this episode too.

1:29.2

Here's our conversation.

1:38.0

Mr. Gladwell. Yes. Welcome back to Solvable. How does it feel to be back?

1:45.1

You're making it feel like I went to a country far away on a mission that took me away from friends

1:51.5

and family for many years. What's the point? It feels good to be back.

1:59.2

That's great. I'm sure some listeners were very surprised to wake up one day and have me on.

2:04.7

They were like, wait a minute. That's not how good we're similar. People often get us confused.

2:11.2

On the times in the street, everyone says, hey, didn't you write Blink? I think listeners are happy

2:14.7

to think I don't know how great. That's very kind of you to say. Very kind of you to say.
