Today we are launching a new series called, “Reviewing the Reviewer,” and the idea is pretty simple: we’ll be asking various Blister reviewers questions about their backgrounds and gear preferences, to give you a more complete picture of the people behind our reviews. And since we like to rank & review things around here, we will be scoring each of our reviewers’ answers to come up with a review grade for each of them.
I sat down with Luke in Blister HQ and asked him about where he grew up and what he was into as a kid; his gear preferences and what gear he is most picky about and least picky about and why; then ON3P Skis founder, Scott Andrus, wrote in with a number of questions for Luke; and I also asked Luke things like: who his favorite BLISTER reviewer is, and I got him to rank his siblings from most favorite to least favorite, before wrapping up with some questions about Luke’s favorite books, music, and movies.

0:00.0 | Hey everybody, welcome back to Gear 30 on the Blister Podcast Network. I'm Jonathan Ellsworth, |
0:10.8 | the founder of Blister, and you can check out everything we're doing and reviewing over at |
0:15.7 | blisterreview.com. Today, we're launching a new series on Gear 30 called Reviewing the Reviewer, and the idea |
0:25.4 | here is pretty simple. |
0:27.1 | We'll be asking various blister reviewers questions about their backgrounds and gear preferences |
0:32.7 | to give you a more complete picture of the people behind our reviews. |
0:37.3 | And since we like to rank and review |
0:38.7 | things around here, we are going to be scoring each of our reviewers' answers to come up with |
0:44.3 | a review grade for each of them. That last part, that rating our reviewers part, was actually |
0:50.8 | Luke Kappa's idea, though when he came up with that, I think he had no idea |
0:55.3 | that we were going to make him go first. |
0:58.2 | So that kind of feels like poetic justice. |
1:01.4 | Anyway, I sat down with Luke in Blister HQ yesterday, and I interrogated him about where |
1:07.2 | he grew up and what he was into as a kid. |
1:10.1 | I asked him about his gear preferences |
1:12.0 | and what gear he is most picky about and least picky about and why. Then we asked Luke a number of |
1:18.3 | guest questions that came in from Owen 3P founder, Scott Andrus. Those are good. And then among other |
1:25.4 | things, I asked Luke who his favorite blister reviewer is, |
1:29.3 | and I actually got him to rank his siblings from most favorite to least favorite. That was |
1:35.9 | kind of amazing. And we even talk about Luke's favorite books, music, and movies. Now, one caveat. |
1:42.9 | We do at the end of the episode tally up the scores of Luke's |
1:45.9 | answers and then basically assign a grade to like, I don't know, his whole personhood or something. |
