Psalm chapter 138 verses 1 and 2.

I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart.

Before the gods, I sing your praise.

I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name,

for your steadfast love and your faithfulness.

For you have exalted above all things your name and your word.

Did you hear that?

And there's this very familiar language in these Psalms,

giving thanks with our whole heart, singing God's praises,

bowing down, giving thanks to God's name for his steadfast love.

Prayed about that, according to Psalm 136, his faithfulness,

then listened to the last phrase of Psalm 138 verse 2.

For you have exalted above all things your name and your word.

What a picture of the supremacy of God's word and name.

Now, we often think about God's name being exalted above all.

But Psalm 138 verse 2 makes clear it's not just his name.

It's his word.

God actually puts his word on the same plane as his name and supremacy.

There is a sense in which the word of God here,

alongside the name of God, is exalted above all,

above all things.
