Welcome to our new project, the Daily Bible Devotional. The goal is to help you understand and apply

scripture as you go through a New Testament Bible read five days a week, Monday through Friday,

as we move from Matthew straight through to Revelation. In under four minutes each morning, we will recap the chapter,

make some application, present thought questions for the day, and offer a prayer together.

Welcome back to our daily Bible devotional in the book of Revelation. We're in chapter 11 today

where it gets really, really easy to understand. Okay, that's not true, but there's still some

really rich stuff here, so let's dig right in. John is given a measuring rod and told to measure the

temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there, but not the outer court, for it is given to the nations.

God appoints two witnesses to prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed, and sackcloth.

They have power to bring plagues, shut the sky, and strike the earth.

After their testimony ends, the beast from the abyss kills them,

and their bodies lie in the great city for three

and a half days. The world rejoices over their death, but God raises them up again, and they ascend

to heaven. A great earthquake follows. The seventh trumpet sounds, a voice in heaven declares that

the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of Christ, and he shall reign forever.

That's something that happens after those things take place. This is interesting about these two

witnesses. One of the toughest chapters in scripture could apply to Jesus since he lived and died

and was raised, or as you'll see in our reading, it could apply to Christianity. God's care for his people is clear

in the vision of the measured temple, showing that he knows and protects those who worship him.

The two witnesses could symbolize faithful believers who speak God's truth in a hostile world.

Their message brings both warning and hope, and their power comes directly from God.
