Earlier this week, I discussed the fall of Montreal and the capture of the remaining

British regulars in Canada.

Only General Guy Carlton, who was also the governor of Quebec, managed to escape capture

by posing as a French peasant and sneaking back into Quebec City.

Even though all of the British regulars had been taken prisoner,

loyalists had managed to rally at Quebec City.

Before the loyalists got there,

Lieutenant Governor Hector Cremahi was prepared to surrender the city, having received word that

the Continentals were on their way. While Captain Benedict Arnold's army had taken a position

across the river from Quebec City on November 8th, his men were not in any condition to fight.

That same day, a British ship, the Lizard, sailed up the St. Lawrence River

to Quebec City with 100 loyalist militia commanded by Captain Malcolm Frazier, a retired British

officer who had participated in the capture of Quebec back during the French and Indian War.
