I'm Konish Thuru and for this next hour you're in the Museum of Lost Objects.

This is no ordinary museum, it's where destroyed monuments and ancient sites are reimagined

or recreated through those things that aren't so easily destroyed, memories, legends

and incredible personal stories.

In this episode, a return to Iraq and Syria will meet archaeologists going back to the

ancient landmarks and places they loved, sites that are now scarred and gutted by war.

This time it's not just about exploring the lost heritage, but also what manages to survive

in the ruins.

We're starting in the oldest city in the world, Aleppo.

The city, which is Syria's largest and most important, has been besieged and battered

like no other in the Syrian conflict.

We're focusing on one particular neighbourhood, which for four years was one of the main

battlegrounds of Aleppo.

We're hearing from Syrians who have a unique connection to this place and whose lives

would change forever by the war.

For me, it's home.

Aleppo, it's home.

One of my favourite things, because I love the city and I want to see it in a pure

way.

So I used to go very early in the morning on the bicycle and cycle in between the little

alleyways and the sook takes you into like a little journey of surprises.
