This Thursday marks the 24th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, which spawned

a decade-long search for the man behind them, Osama bin Laden.

Ed Bogan was the CIA's chief of operations for the Pakistan-Afghanistan Department in the

counterterrorism center. And he takes us into the vault at the agency's headquarters, where he

oversaw the raid on bin Laden's compound. Where were you on September 11, 2001?

So I had just finished my operational certification training after entering on duty at the agency in 2000.

I was selected by our Africa Division to be a case officer in the field and do my first tour in Africa.

And I was going to take a year of

French language class before the assignment. And 9-11 happened to be the second day of the French

class. There was many of us who were, you know, just beginning our careers. And we all were huddled

around televisions and watching, you know, the first first tower fall hearing word that the

Pentagon was hit and several of us immediately jumped in our cars and started

driving you know towards the Pentagon to I don't know assist in some manner
