Summary

Most of us have at least some fear of death. Our culture is obsessed with it but without a remedy. However, it's a completely different story for Believers! Pastor Wes reminded me recently that Jesus has authority over sin and death and death is our servant because we belong to Jesus. One of my listeners heard me talk about this and asked if I would have Wes on the podcast to dive deeper into this topic. I'm delighted that he agreed to do that and he's here today to help us reframe our experiences according to God's word and align our thinking about death with what Christ has transformed it into.  Resources mentioned in this episode: Link to podcast episode search bar Raising Boys to Men Book Raising Boys to Men Audiobook The Unhurried Homeschooler The Unhurried Homeschooler Audiobook Unhurried Grace for a Mom’s Heart The Four-Hour School Day Give Send Go (link to my fundraiser)  Venmo-@Durenda-Wilson

Well, again, welcome, everyone. As most of you know, I was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, the end of November. It has been a serious time of stretching and growth and lots of questions. Several times, my husband and I have dialed our pastor Wes into those conversations because we needed help

0:55.8

posturing or positioning ourselves from a place of faith when it comes to all that we've been

1:00.7

facing. So one of those conversations, of course, revolved around death. And Wes mentioned to us that

1:07.1

one of the things that can make these kinds of trials harder is not facing squarely the things

1:12.7

that we're afraid of. And of course, death would be on that list of things. But he encouraged

1:18.3

us to go into that room, turn on the light, walk around a little bit. But he also encouraged us

1:23.8

not to do this alone. So he and one of the elders from our church, Luke, came over,

1:29.3

and we had that conversation. My biggest takeaway and the most helpful thing that I remember

1:35.6

about that conversation is when Wes reminded us that Jesus has authority, all authority,

1:42.3

over sin, over death, and that death is our servant because we belong to

1:46.4

Jesus. And I had happened to mention that, I think, somewhere along the way, and one of my

1:52.3

listeners actually emailed me and asked if I would have Wes on the podcast to dive a little

1:58.7

deeper into this topic. So I am delighted that he

2:01.8

agreed to do that. And he is here today to help us reframe our experiences, according to God's

2:08.1

word, and align our thinking about death with what Christ has transformed it into. And so I'm glad

2:15.2

you're here today. I'm excited to get a little bit of expansion on this topic.

2:21.0

And I think that I don't think there's a person out in the audience who would say that they're not at least a little bit afraid of death.
