Thank you for joining me for today's episode of God, Law and Liberty, and I think we're going to have a good episode today.

I guess otherwise I wouldn't record it, but it's a follow-up to last week when we

began to look at what the Apostle Peter wrote about civil rulers and we find in 1st Peter 214 where he said that rulers

are for the punishment of evil-doers and for the praise of those who do good.

And we looked at his advice to the church

in the face of tyrannical rulers

who are getting the good and the evil backwards, which is found in the next verse,

verse 15, and this is what it said, for this is the will of God that by doing good

you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men as free, yet not using

liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bond servants of God. And we looked last week at one of the

implications of that verse for the day, for the way we do politics today by examining the metaphysics of law and of

sin and today we want to look at a second implication from this verse that has a bearing on how we should

think about doing politics and law today and it's going to be a strange one to our ears. It was to mine. But by way of quick

refresher and for those who may still be trying to get a handle on what metaphysics is.

And it's taken me sometime, so don't despair if you're still grappling with it.

But let me flesh out that term a bit quickly and then review how we used it last week to inform

our thinking about politics and law.
