Summary

Romans 10:9-10 — What is at the center of history? In this sermon on Romans 10:9–10 titled “Results of the Resurrection,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones proclaims that it is Jesus Christ, the crucified Messiah. His sacrificial death on the cross of Calvary is the means by which God conquered sin, Satan, and the power of death. All the blessings that Christ gives are procured by His suffering and rising from the grave. He then ascended into heaven, where He lives and intercedes for His people. After ascending into heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit just as He promised, to empower and comfort believers and the church. Jesus will return to bring His Kingdom to completion by finally destroying death and evil once and for all. These glorious truths should lead all believers to trust and hope in God that He is faithful to bring the work of redemption to completion. Christians ought to live in light of this hope and never look to themselves for wisdom and strength, but rely wholly on Him who has conquered the grave and defeated death.

We have described this as the Apostles' account or definition of saving faith.

1:03.9

That's the thing that he's concerned about.

1:06.3

He is concerned in the whole of this chapter, as he was in chapter 9, with the question of

1:11.4

salvation, and in particular the salvation of the Jew.

1:15.0

He's concerned to show why they're not saved, and therefore he is concerned to show the

1:20.6

only way whereby anybody can be saved.

1:24.1

And here he sums it up for us.

1:26.4

After some argumentation, he puts it in this form. This is it, he said. This is the word which we preach. The word of faith, he calls it, which we preach. And it tells that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saying thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God

hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Now, then, we've said that this can be

1:49.2

divided under three headings, the content of saving faith, the character of saving faith, and the

1:55.2

proof of saving faith. At the moment, we are concerned with the first heading, which is the content.

2:02.3

And that, of course, is quite obvious.

2:04.7

The apostle divides it under two sections.

2:07.8

The first is what we believe concerning the Lord Jesus.
